the muffin girl

amelia and i baked for the first time together on sunday night. i'm not much of a baker, but i've got a freezer full of frozen, overripe bananas and thought it was time to make some banana muffins. amelia was clad in her super-cute apron (from auntie jen), and we got to work creaming the butter and sugar and eggs, mixing flour, etc. amelia commented every couple of minutes, "momma, this is really fun!" she also threw in, "daddy is going to be soooo proud of us." and the muffins turned out great! we tried one straight out of the oven, and amelia declared the top of the muffin to be her favorite part. the next morning, amelia told poppa, "the muffin was better when it was warm." she's just too smart.

literacy

perhaps this is too aggressive/optimistic an interpretation, but i think this was amelia's attempt to write her name, albeit backwards and the M is upside and not entirely complete.

bike!

halmoni and harabiji got amelia this beautiful bike for her birthday. she and poppa went to the bike store together, and given the choice between a purple and pink bike, guess which she chose? and she picked out the streamers too. i asked her whether she likes her bike and she said, "i love it."

happy early birthday!

now that amelia is old enough to actually understand the concept of a birthday party, we decided to throw one for her and her friends. and on the fourth of her july, her actual birthday, we'll arrange for some fireworks especially for her. i overheard her telling someone, "my momma is going to call the man to get fireworks for me for my birthday." that's right sweetheart, it's all for you.

amelia got lots of fabulous presents from her friends, including books and puzzles and crayons and clothes and toys, but two of my favorites are:

this fabulous, super-deluxe easel from uncle david and auntie bo:and this box of art supplies that mimi yi-yi so thoughtfully put together:

thanks everyone!
