recent activities

sorry folks, it's been a little while, but there's been a lot going on around here. we've been to the circus, which amelia loved. she's been asking us, "in september, can we go to the circus again?

this last weekend we went to a "princess" birthday party for jada, where princess belle from beauty and the beast made a special appearance. after getting over the initial shock and awe of seeing a real live princess, amelia got her arm painted by the multi-talented princess, watched her do magic, sing happy birthday, etc. at the end of it all, amelia insisted on saying bye to belle, and gladly assented to a hug from her.

the weekend before that, we saw the king tut show at the deyoung. i feared that it was going to be cheesy, but it was actually pretty amazing! all amelia seems to remember from it was the little video they showed about king tut in the beginning ("momma, i saw a video at the museum about king tut!"). here we are enjoying an ice cream cone in the garden after the exhibit.

singing

amelia is currently obsessed with the song "reflections," from the movie mu-lan. she's never actually seen the movie, and it's a bit tough trying to explain to her what the song is about (Q: "why is mu-lan sad?" A: um, because she wants to do something that her parents don't want her to do). and she doesn't get the lyrics quite right, to hilarious effect, e.g., "who is that girl i see, staring straight back at me" becomes "staring strange at me." she has, to my great surprise, allowed me to make a video of her singing that song:

and here's a bonus track, the abc song:

sno-cones!

auntie jen and uncle eric sent amelia this snoopy sno-cone shaver for her birthday, just in time for the first warm day we've had in about a week: amelia giggled happily through our little sno-cone project, and thoroughly enjoyed her grape-flavored sno-cone. at the end of her cup of ice, she said, "momma, when daddy comes home, we're going to make one for him, ok?"
