little yellow man redux

check out this hilarious picture that amelia drew of gabriel:i guess he really does look jaundiced!

4 weeks later and gabriel is still a bit jaundiced. (it doesn't help that many of his clothes are yellow as well.) turns out he's got something crazy called breastmilk jaundice, which means there's something in the breastmilk that's preventing him from breaking down bilirubin properly. (see wikipedia, or your local pediatrician, for more info.) no worries though, we're told it's pretty harmless, with the added side benefit of making him sleepy, and should go away in a couple weeks. and yes, i am trying the in-home phototherapy (i.e., putting him by a window), but august around here is pretty sun-less.

other news: he's now 10 lbs, 4.6 ozs, and 22 inches tall! i feel like i can practically see him growing bigger.

it started out badly

it's true, he wasn't such a fan when we started...but then he calmed down,
and i'd even go so far as to say that he had a good time, aside from being forced to wear a pink kitty cat hand-me-down towel. (we're trying to defy gender stereotypes around here.)

amelia, on the permanence of gabriel: "he's ours forever and ever, right? we're not going to give him back ever, right?"

amelia, on momma's time in the hospital: "momma, i missed you when you were in the hospital. i'm glad you're home."

amelia, on showing off gabriel to her friends: "when momma goes back to work, then gabriel can pick me up from school and i can show him to all my friends!"
